Altos Labs, a multinational company with a huge budget of 3 billion dollars, was founded about two years ago with an ambitious goal: to extend the healthy life span of man.
The company's team includes dozens of the world's best scientists, including four Nobel Prize winners, and each of them receives an annual salary of over a million dollars.
Professor Pora Muñoz, Spanish biologist and winner of Spain's National Research Award, joined the company in March 2023.
Until then, she worked as a professor at Pompeo Fabre University in Barcelona, where she uncovered mechanisms related to aging and muscle regeneration.
In her laboratory, Prof. Muñoz developed strategies that succeeded in repairing muscle tissue of old mice, increasing the self-cleaning of cells and eliminating damaged cells.
At Altos Labs, Prof. Muñoz and her colleagues focus on a new approach: instead of repairing damage, they aim to rejuvenate the human body.
To this end, the research team uses a unique chemical "cocktail", known as "Yamanka factors", named after a Japanese researcher named Shinya Yamanka.
Shinya Yamanka won the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2012 and is also one of the stars recruited for the mission by Altos Labs.
The Yamanka factors consist of four molecules and are known for their ability to reprogram an adult cell and return it to an embryonic state, allowing it to transform into any other type of cell.
Experiments with mice showed promising results: treatment with Yamanka factors made the mice live 30% longer and improve the tissue regeneration process in their bodies.
The Altos Labs team believes that this innovative approach may lead to a significant breakthrough in the field of anti-aging, and lead to the extension of the healthy lifespan of humans.
